The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  During this month, the emphasis is the veneration (not the adoration, as with the Sacred Heart of Jesus) of Mary's physical heart.  

We are called to make reparation for the offenses that we have committed against Mary through our sins.  Every time we have sinned, we caused grief to Mary and suffering to her in union with Jesus, her Son.
