Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

(Since August 15 occurs on a Saturday this year, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation. However, Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on August 15).
The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was already being celebrated on 15 August in the 5th century. It bore the sense of Our Lady's “Birth into heaven”, or in the Byzantine tradition, her “Dormition”. The feast began to celebrated in Rome in the middle of the 7th century. It was not until 1 November 1950, that Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Dogma of Mary's assumption body and soul into heaven. In the Apostles' Creed, we profess our faith in the “Resurrection of the body.”
August: Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
The month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. During this month, the emphasis is the veneration (not the adoration, as with the Sacred Heart of Jesus) of Mary's physical heart.
We are called to make reparation for the offenses that we have committed against Mary through our sins. Every time we have sinned, we caused grief to Mary and suffering to her in union with Jesus, her Son.
